I’m David Hatton, the latest addition to the Admin Team!
I’ve long been a contributor to the site, when I’ve had the time, so it’s a real pleasure to now be involved with setting the agenda to help this become the most valuable resource page on Facebook.
My journey into teaching started as a teenager when I went back to my old primary school to help out, and after a few years working in retail management, I completed my PGCE and took up a post at a top prep school in the English department. When the person in charge of transitions to state schools at 11+ retired, I was asked to take on the responsibility. It turned out to be an ideal fit and I quickly learned how to adapt my teaching to (the supposedly unteachable) non-verbal reasoning,
When I eventually returned to Kent, I decided to forego the classroom permanently as I started to get the number of tutees and other work that I needed to make this my only job. Now, I teach five days a week – mostly for the 11 Plus – and write the materials for one of the top teaching academies, so I rarely have a moment to myself. It’s not quite what I envisaged when I stopped working full time!
Away from teaching, I’m chairman and captain of a bowls club (no, we’re not all pensioners!) and I run a quiz league. Oh, and that’s aside from having three young daughters, the folk music, the gardening, the novel writing... That’s why you don’t see me around as much as some of the other admins, but if you have any problems, I’ll try and be there to offer support and advice with the rest of the team. I’m not here to advertise as I’ve usually got a waiting list. I’m here to help, and that’s the core purpose of this site.
