Welcome to a little snippet from behind the scenes at Heckmondwike Tutors.
We are a group of highly skilled professionals with over 100 years of teaching experience between us!! We provide a full, structured, and extremely challenging curriculum for children sitting the CEM style of 11 plus. We teach children from Reception to Year 5. We work alongside schools to ensure a collaborative learning journey enabling all children to reach their full potential. We produce all our bespoke 11 plus materials and our success rate is consistently very high - last year 85 of our students were successful.
Aims, Ethos and Values
We pride ourselves on providing fun, engaging and inspiring online zoom lessons that the children enjoy attending. Hard work with a little fun thrown in is encouraged. We understand that each child is an individual. We will give the children self-belief in their ability, increasing confidence, self-esteem, determination to succeed and resilience.
Assessments, Practice Tests and Summer Revision Days
We constantly monitor learning and hold regular assessment/progression tests – this allows us to feedback to parents immediately and discuss any proactive interventions.
There are ten mock tests available to be taken over the spring and summer months. All tests can be booked through the website and the links for these will appear early 2021.

The tests familiarise the children with the style of the test they can expect to be sit in September. The tests normalise (as far as possible) the strict exam conditions and ensure the children use the given time in the most effective way.
We have historical data from all our tests. We compare performance and success criteria against previous year groups.
We hold revision days over the summer holiday period. Dates will be available on our website after the February half term.
Additional Sessions
We can also offer additional tuition sessions for English or Maths. The groups are small – either 1:1 or groups (4 maximum) and are designed for children who need a little extra help to reach the standard required to be successful.
