resolution with Russia remain quite vague. Why does China want to scale BRICS to European countries? The answer is simple: BRICS is China's analog to the North American Free Trade Area. Although the principles and rules of organization differ, their objectives are very similar. China aims to use BRICS to bring as broad a range of countries as possible under its influence. In this view, other countries within BRICS, from the Chinese perspective, are seen as nothing more than resource satellites whose main task is to support the functioning of the Chinese economy and facilitate the transfer of brains and technology from the periphery to the center.
Geopolitical projects with NATO are impossible now; Moscow does not trust the alliance and experiences “emotional repulsion,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told TASS. "Geopolitical designs of any kind with NATO are impossible at all. NATO is not a negotiation-capable counterpart, it is a gang, which we not only do not feel a bit of trust in, but which makes us feel political and, I would say, even emotional repulsion," the diplomat said.
Russia is “done” with Western Europe “for at least a generation” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on May 18. Russia won’t view Western European countries as partners as Moscow and the West are already locked in a confrontation that has no end in sight, Lavrov said citing an article by Russian political scientist Dmitry Trenin.
“Europe as a partner is not relevant for us for at least one generation,” Trenin said.
“The acute phase of the military-political confrontation with the West continues [and] is in full swing,” Lavrov said, pointing to the nature of the narratives currently prevalent in the US and Europe.
Nato is “a group in which we feel not an ounce of trust, which triggers political and even emotional rejection” in Moscow, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told the media outlet.
He added that, no matter who comes out on top in the US presidential election in November, “no chance for the improvement of the situation can be seen, considering the fundamental anti-Russian consensus of the American elites.”
During his inauguration speech on Tuesday, nonetheless, Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that Moscow does not “refuse dialogue with Western states.”
“The choice is theirs,” the president proposed, posing the question: “Do they intend to continue trying to restrain the development of Russia, continue the policy of aggression and relentless pressure that they have pursued for years, or look for a path to cooperation and peace?”
