 5.2.1 Import/export dynamics
Ukraine's exports of agricultural products 41% up in September. Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov said on Oct. 5 that Ukraine increased its export of agricultural products by land and naval routes in September to 6.9mn metric tons. Compared to August, the export volume has increased by 41%, he added.
Ukraine's grain exports hindered by Russian sabotage. Due to Russia’s efforts to block a UN-brokered deal to export Ukrainian grain, Ukraine's Black Sea ports in Odesa Oblast have been working only at 25-30% of their capacity in recent days, Ukraine's Infrastructure Ministry said.
The grain export by rail plan achieves only 24% of the goal.Ukrainian Railways (UZ) plans regarding loading grain for export across the western border crossings have been only 24.1% fulfilled, said one of the company's top managers, Valery Tkachev. According to Tkachev, there is currently a tendency to decrease traffic toward the western crossings. This is due to the reorientation of transportation to seaports after the grain corridor’s opening. Many companies are not canceling their shipments using land crossings, but their fulfillment percentage is very low. The situation is similar with other agricultural cargoes: sunflower oil is shipped at 35% of the reserved volumes, and meal - 44%. Tkachev called on entrepreneurs to be more responsible when submitting applications to enable others to use the transport capacity of the crossings.
As much as 47% of grain exported from Ukraine under an agreement reached in Istanbul has been shipped to developing countries, an official from the UN mission to the Joint Coordination Center for the Black Sea Grain Initiative told TASS.
Half of Ukraine's agricultural imports come from the EU. In January-August 2022, Ukraine imported agricultural products worth about $2.2B from EU countries. This is about 55% of the total import of farming goods, said Bohdan Dukhnytskyi, a senior researcher at the Institute of
