The US says India hid the Russian origin of fuel shipped to the US. Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor Michael Patra said that, according to the U.S. Treasury Department, an Indian vessel has taken oil from a Russian tanker on the high seas and brought it to a port in Gujarat. There, the crude oil was processed and shipped to the U.S. in violation of Western sanctions, the Treasury Department said.
FM Kuleba calls for a tourist visa ban for Russians. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba referenced the suspension of Russia from the UN World Tourism Organization because, in his words, “tourism is a pillar of peace and international friendship... Russia’s actions are indefensible and contrary to the very principles of UNWTO.” In his statement on Twitter on Aug. 14, he wrote that the reasoning sounds “fully applicable to an EU, G7 tourist visa ban for Russians.”
Russia says US recognizing it as state sponsor of terrorism would be ‘point of no return.’ Russian diplomat Alexander Darchiev told the Russian state-controlled media TASS that recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism would lead to “the most serious collateral damage to the bilateral diplomatic relations,” adding that Russia might lower the level of or even cut diplomatic relations with the U.S.
Latvia recognizes Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. According to the Latvian public broadcaster LSM, the country’s parliament, Saeima, issued a statement on Aug. 11 in which they recognize Russian violence against civilians in Ukraine as terrorism and Russia as a country sponsoring terrorism. Saeima also called on the EU countries to “immediately suspend the issuance of tourism and entry visas to Russian and Belarusian citizens,” LSM reported citing the statement.
Poland to develop a solution to deny visas to Russians. Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Piotr Wawrzyk said that Poland supports restricting visas for Russian citizens on the European Union's level, Polskie Radio reported. Poland stopped issuing tourist visas to most Russian citizens several months ago. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia also support banning tourist visas for Russians. However, Germany, France, and the Netherlands are against the proposal, Wawrzyk said
Latvia prepares a bill to limit the use of Russian language. According to Latvian Justice Minister Janis Bordans, the bill seeks to restrict the use of Russian in the workplace and in public places, Latvia's Delfi news site
