the eighth package of European Union sanctions against Russia, there will probably be no limit on the prices of Russian oil, reported Radio Svoboda. Because the G7 is still working out the details for capping oil prices, a price cap likely won't be featured in the latest sanctions package. Instead, it has been suggested that the coming sanctions package will contain restrictions on chemicals, machinery, steel products, and individuals involved in the "referendums." This week the European Commission will present a proposal for introducing new sanctions against Russia. EU leaders may approve it during a meeting in Prague on October 6-7.
Men can’t leave Russian-occupied Crimea without military permission.Men must obtain permits from local military enlistment offices before leaving the peninsula, Crimea-based news agency Kryminform reported, citing the Russian occupation government of Ukraine's Crimea. Permits can be issued to men who have reasons to leave Crimea, such as business trips, education, or medical treatment.
Finland to introduce entry visa restrictions for Russians. The decision was made on Sept. 23 by Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and the country's government. The move is a response to the mobilisation and annexation of Ukrainian territories announced by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. It seeks to prevent "serious damage to Finland's international position.
Kremlin likely downplays prisoner swap with Ukraine. The Institute for the Study of War reports that an unexpected prisoner swap which was announced the same day as partial mobilisation, is "deeply unpopular" among Russian nationalists and military bloggers. The Kremlin exchanged 215 Ukrainian prisoners of war, including captured foreign nationals and some of the members of the National Guard's Azov regiment. The experts noted that far-right Russian military bloggers criticised the exchange and asked if the Kremlin had given up on the ”de-Nazification” of Ukraine, one of the stated goals of the Russian February invasion.
G7 to react to sham referendums on September 23-25 with new sanctions on Russia. The G7 nations will not recognize the pseudo-referendums that Russia is preparing to hold in the occupied territories of Ukraine, said German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Sept. 22. The G7 members will also "pursue further targeted sanctions" on Russia if the "referendums" take place, she said.
White House rules out complete visa ban for Russians. U.S. senior official John Kirby said on Sept. 3 that he didn’t see a need to turn visa sanctions against the Russian regime into a war with the entire Russian people. “We do not believe that holding all Russians accountable for Putin's actions is a productive measure,” Kirby told Russian independent media Dozhd.
