Western nations have imposed about 11,000 various restrictions on Russia, which went largely unnoticed by Russian citizens, Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov said.
Some US officials disappointed about sanctions' impact on Russian economy. “We were expecting that things like SWIFT and all the blocking sanctions on Russia’s banks would totally crater the Russian economy,” CNN quoted one of the U.S. officials. Russia’s economy was expected to shrink by nearly 15% earlier in the year, but between April and June, it declined by about 4% as compared to the same period last year, the report reads.
Three Russians excluded from EU sanctions list. Saodat Narzieva, a sister of the oligarch Alisher Usmanov; Russian politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who died in April, and Olga Ayziman, the ex-wife of Russian oligarch Mikhail Fridman, have been removed from the list. On Sept. 14, the EU extended restrictive measures against the country for another six months, until March 15. The sanctions apply to 1,206 individuals and 108 legal entities.
Russia has passed the most difficult situation in the economy, President Vladimir Putin said at a plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on September 7. "I would like to note, we believe, our experts both in the government and the presidential administration believe that the peak, the most difficult situation [in the country’s economy] has been passed. The situation is normalising, which is highlighted by macroeconomic indicators as well," he said. The authorities will continue efforts to defeat inflation, Putin added. "At least everything will be done for that," he noted.
Russia will suspend supplies of oil and petroleum products to states, which will decide to restrict the price of oil from the country, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters on Thursday. "As far as price restrictions are concerned, if they impose restrictions on prices, we will simply not supply oil and petroleum products to such companies or states that impose restrictions as we will not work non-competitively," he said. Novak also slammed the proposals to impose restrictions on the price of Russian oil as "completely absurd," adding that the measure could completely destroy the global oil market.
Biden says Russia should not be labeled state sponsor of terrorism. U.S. President Joe Biden on Sept. 5 told reporters "no" when asked whether Russia should be recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism. Earlier on July 7, the U.S. Senate approved a resolution calling on Secretary of State Antony Blinken to give Russia the designation.
