Notes (GeDNs) of Silknet, a leading Georgian telecommunications operator. They were linked to $200mn of 5-year senior unsecured bonds at 11% listed on the Global Exchange Market
of Euronext Dublin.
The GeDN programme is for a debut depositary instrument issued in Georgia enabling investors to take indirect exposure to Silknet’s notes.
The GeDN prospectus was approved by the National Bank of Georgia and the GeDNs are now listed on the Georgian Stock Exchange. The terms and conditions of the GeDNs mostly match those of the underlying notes.
The GeDNs can be converted to the notes and vice versa by investors through Georgian brokers. Silknet acts as the issuer and the programme sponsor, while the GCSD acts as the GeDN depositary. Notes converted to GeDNs are kept at the local custodian in the GCSD’s name.
Lithuanian telecoms giant rejected Huawei's 5G bid for “geopolitical reasons”
Lithuanian telecoms giant Telia Lietuva acknowledged on November 30 that it rejected Huawei as a bidder to roll out 5G in the country for “political reasons”, CEO Dan Stromberg said.
In early November, Telia Lietuva announced
a partnership with Ericsson to develop the
5G network in Lithuania. In an interview with Lithuanian media, he admitted that the reason
behind the rejection of Huawei was “geopolitical situation”.
He also touted Sweden’s Ericsson, saying that the company is a “good strategic partner”.
Telia Lietuva will replace the existing 4G base stations with Ericsson products and will use the new equipment for the 5G expansion. Some 2,000 base stations are set to be replaced in total.
There will be no Huawei equipment in either the 4G or 5G networks, according to Stromberg.
Montenegro to start using 5G network at end-2022
Montenegro hopes to start operation of a planned 5G network at the end of 2022, according to
the telecommunications agency (EKIP), public broadcaster RTCG reported on November 24.
The agency hopes that by the end of 2020 the regulation framework for the 5G network will be completed and plans for distribution of frequencies will be clarified as well.
Meanwhile, EKIP is developing a strategy for implementation of the 5G network, which should be completed in the first quarter of 2021.
The agency hopes to start tenders for distribution of frequencies in the first half of 2021 so that
the telecommunication companies have time
to launch commercial use of the network by
the end of 2022.
