The state-owned gas champion Naftogaz Group paid UAH75.4bn in taxes to the state and local budgets for January-October 2023. Formerly another massive loss-making state-owned energy company, Naftogaz has also gone into profit after it was put on a commercial basis in recent year reforms. The state budget received UAH69.8bn of taxes from Naftogaz which is now the biggest tax payer in the country and accounts for 11.5% of payments controlled by the State Tax Service of Ukraine.
Jailed oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky also lost control of his stake in Ukraine’s leading privately owned oil and gas company JKX Oil & Gas LTD. JKX Oil & Gas’ subsidiary, Poltava Petroleum Company, is a leading non-state oil and gas producer in Ukraine, holding five production licences and one for geological study, including pilot production. It previously only admitted that Kolomoisky was a major stakeholder in December last year, just as Kolomoisky was coming under increasing pressure from the authorities. Kolomoisky was arrested on September 2 by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and charged with money laundering and fraud.
