Meanwhile Gazprom supplies gas for Europe through Ukraine in the volume of 40.5mn cubic meters per day via the Sudzha gas pumping station.
"Gazprom supplies Russian gas for transit through Ukrainian territory in the volume confirmed by the Ukrainian side via the Sudzha gas pumping station of 40.5mn cubic meters as of November 13. The request for the Sokhranovka gas pumping station has been rejected," a Gazprom representative told reporters. Earlier the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) confirmed the request for pumping of this volume of gas.
Gas withdrawal from European UGS facilities amounted to 67mn cubic meters on November 11, according to data provided by Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE). Meanwhile pumping totaled 43mn cubic meters.
The heating season in Europe started on November 7, 2023, with EU countries having withdrawn 346mn cubic meters of gas from UGS facilities since then. European UGS facilities are currently 99.45% full (10.04 percentage points higher than the average as of this date in the past five years), with 109.64bn cubic meters of gas stored in them.
Czech Republic imports over half of the gas it needs from Russia In addition to the steel imports, the Czech Republic imports more than half of the natural gas it needs from Russia. This was reported by the news portal kurzy with reference to Gas Connect Austria, one of the largest gas distribution companies in Central Europe. From January to October, the Czech Republic purchased 57,000 tonnes of pipeline gas of Russian origin for $44.1mn. The largest deliveries of 13,000 tonnes were made in September. Meanwhile, the largest supplier of gas to the republic is Norway. During this period, 3.3mn tonnes of gas were purchased from the Nordic country for $2.7bn.
European natural gas prices have increased by almost 7% in November y/y. Underlying futures snapped a four-session slide, rising 6.9% before paring gains. The contract is still trading in a narrow range around €50 per megawatt hour, the level that has been seen over the past few weeks. Forecasts for cold weather and tensions in the Middle East fueled demand for blue fuel.
Greece's state gas company DEPA Commerce is in negotiations with Russian gas giant Gazprom on the terms and prices of gas supplies in 2024, Environment and Energy Minister Thodoros Skylakakis said as cited by business daily Ekonomikos Tahidromos on November 3. Russian gas accounted for 40% of Greece's gas imports in January–September and can account for 60% according to unconfirmed data, the report read.
