The Russian Federation Council is considering a proposal that would set a limit for market share for e-commerce marketplaces at 25% of the volume of all aggregate online sales of goods for the previous fiscal year, according to Forbes.
Should such legislation be passed, this could affect market leaders Wildberries and Ozon Holdings that had an estimated market share of 30% and 20% as of 1H23.
As followed by bne IntelliNews, Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has already recognised Wildberries and Ozon e-commerce operators as companies with a dominant position in the online retail market, which will make it possible to apply stricter anti monopoly regulation measures to them. According to FAS data Wildberries and Ozon occupy about 80% of the market.
