On November 17, Russian forces shelled Ukrainian gas production facilities. Ukraine has notified Russian oil pipeline company Transneft that it suspended oil transportation via the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline to Hungary, spokesman for the CEO Igor Dyomin said late on November 14. Ukraine will have its European gas storage operator. Ukraine is preparing to certify Ukrtransgaz as a European gas storage operator. The first stage is the introduction of relevant changes to Ukraine’s legislation. This is already in the implementation process, reports Naftogaz of Ukraine. The certification will allow the EU country's strategic gas reserves to be stored in Ukrainian gas storage facilities. It will maximize the use of the gas storage network and increase revenues from underground storage services. The regulator NKREKP must detail the certification procedure, and Ukrtransgaz must officially provide all the documents necessary for its completion. After analysis and relevant conclusions by the Ukrainian regulator and the Secretariat of the Energy Community, a decision will be made on Ukrtransgaz's certification as an underground gas storage operator in accordance with EU standards.
Ukraine asks the US to help with gas for heating. Oleksii Chernyshov, head of Naftogaz of Ukraine, voiced a corresponding request to USAID.
