One in three Russian companies lost money over the first four months of this year
One in three Russian companies lost money over the first four months of this year, according to Rosstat, Vedomosti reported on July 27.
In January-May 2020, the balanced financial result (profit minus
loss) of organisations (excluding small businesses, banks, insurance organisations and state (municipal) institutions) at current prices fell by 51.6% and amounted to RUB3.246 trillion ($45.2bn) compared with RUB6.702 trillion in January-May 2019.
Foreigners’ share at Borsa Istanbul falls below 50%
Foreigners’ share in Borsa Istanbul’s free-float fell to 49.82% at market close on July 7, Is Invest’s daily foreigners’ share bulletin showed on July 8.
It was the first time since June 2004 that foreigners’ share in the stock exchange fell below 50%.
Net foreign direct investment leaving Ukraine in 1Q20
There was a net outflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) from Ukraine in the first quarter of this year of $1,451mn, reversing the trend of inflows of the last several years, according to data from Ukrstat.
Ukraine has been attracting foreign investment but at disappointingly low levels. New FDI in 2019 was $1.9bn, the State Statistics Service said. About one quarter, or $506mn, was from Cyprus, presumably offshore Ukrainian or Russian money. The next four sources were: Russia – $396mn; the Netherlands – $262mn; The United Kingdom – $212mn; and Germany – $119mn.
Turkey’s debt-fuelled economic revival continues
Credit card and debit card payments in Turkey slightly declined to
a value of TRY20.1bn ($2.9bn) in the country’s fourth ‘post-lockdown’ week (ending June 26) from TRY21.2bn a week ago, according to latest data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT).
Turkey officially confirmed its first coronavirus (COVID-19) case on March 11 and TRY21.3bn was recorded in the week ending March 13 when COVID-19-driven stockpiling occurred. However, initial measures to curb the virus outbreak only arrived with a two-week lag.
