2.9 Polls and sociology
Pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) established Turkey’s third electoral alliance. The Labour and Freedom Alliance is a coalition of six left-wing parties. The HDP has 56 parliamentary lawmakers. The Workers’ Party of Turkey (TIP) has four legislators in parliament (three returned from HDP, one from CHP). The other members, namely the Labour Party, Social Freedom Party, the Labour Movement Party and the Socialist Assemblies Federation, have no parliamentary representation.
The ruling People’s Alliance is made up of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Action Party (MHP). The Nation Alliance includes the Republican People’s Party (CHP), the Iyi (Good) Party, the Democrat Party, the Felicity Party, Deva Party and Future Party.
Lately, CHP chair Kemal Kilicdaroglu has been pushing to be nominated as the opposition candidate. Erdogan has already lost the next elections. It is not important who will be his rival or rivals.
Domestic and international violence to delay the elections or to claim another fake victory is the risk ahead. Kilicdaroglu would be the best option for Erdogan as he has served to legitimise the Erdogan regime across his main opposition leadership career. He would again serve to legitimise Erdogan’s awaited crimes ahead.
In any case, if Erdogan moves on the nuclear option rather than kindly fleeing abroad (before ending in jail), Kilicdaroglu would not be enough to keep Turkey stable. The Syria or Iraq scenarios would be on the cards.
