Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will head Nato in October, and Ursula von der Leyen will remain head of the EC for a second term. The Nato Council officially approved the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, as the next Alliance Secretary General. Also, the current head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will remain in her position for a second term. The new head of the EU Council will be the former head of the Portuguese government, Antonio Costa, replacing Charles Michel.
Zelenskiy arrives in Brussels to sign EU-Ukraine security agreement. "It (the agreement) will for the first time establish the commitment of all 27 member states to provide Ukraine with broad support despite any internal institutional changes," Zelenskiy said via his Telegram channel.

● Sanctions
UK imposes new sanctions against Russia, targeting oil fleet, financial sector, military suppliers. The sanctions were introduced in coordination with Group of Seven (G7) partners during Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's visit to the G7 Leaders Summit in Italy.
Canada introduces sanctions against Russian military-industrial complex, propaganda network. Canada introduced new sanctions on June 13 against 11 Russian individuals and 16 entities who have been purportedly engaged in activities that support Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The US demands long-term sanctions against the Russian Federation from the EU in exchange for $50B in aid for Ukraine. The US is demanding guarantees from the EU that sanctions against Russia will be maintained in order to implement a loan mechanism that will provide Ukraine with a $50B loan secured by profits from frozen Russian assets. Sanctions are renewed every six months and require the unanimous consent of all EU countries. Washington, however, wants the EU to extend the sanctions responsible for blocking Russia from access to its assets until the end of the war in Ukraine, ensuring that the US would not have to bear full responsibility for the loan.
