State District Power Plant (located in Transnistria and owned by the Russian group Inter RAO UES) for $59.9/MWh. According to the minister, August's weighted average supply price will be $65.03/MWh.
In July, Ukraine earned UAH 0.5B from electricity exports to the EU. State company Ukrenergo auctioned access to interstate power grids at cross-border crossings with Romania and Slovakia for UAH 500M ($13M) in the first 27 days of electricity export to the EU, reported the company. The EU's electricity price is several times higher than in Ukraine. Currently, Ukrenergo is auctioning all the available capacity of crossings with Romania and Slovakia - 100 MW. The weighted average daily price of access to interstate power grids at the crossings with Romania and Slovakia for 24 days was UAH 7,700/MW. At the same time, the highest weighted average price was on July 26 – UAH 14,600/MW. Currently, Ukraine can export electricity to Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary. Ukrainian electricity is also exported to Poland (210 MW) and Moldova (600 MW). The volume of Ukrainian electricity exports to Europe will gradually expand.
Ukraine offers to replace five billion cubic meters of Russian gas with electricity to the EU. Ukraine is ready to supply 1.5 GW of electricity to EU countries right now, thus replacing about five billion cubic meters of gas, stated the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Galushchenko. This is how the minister replied to the question of how Ukraine and the EU can help each other overcome the energy crisis Russia has provoked. "We have several ideas. First of all, there is the possibility of electricity export from Ukraine. This is good for the Ukrainian market because we have a big price difference with the EU. So, we can earn money to maintain our financial liquidity, and we can save up to five billion cubic meters of gas in Europe. The EU can simply buy our electricity and not use Russian gas," Galushchenko noted.
Moldova plans to increase electricity imports from Ukraine. For the new electricity import, the government of Moldova is looking for money, said the President of Moldova, Maya Sandu. "We would like to buy more electricity because, in the case of the Tiraspol contract (Russian government-controlled territory), we don't know what will happen next. There is no long-term contract that can guarantee the provision of the volumes we have bought so far. Obviously, we want to have alternatives and resources," the president emphasized. At the beginning of June, Ukraine started supplying electricity to Chisinau from Romania after synchronizing Moldova's energy system with the European network. The power systems of Ukraine and Moldova were fully synchronized with the continental European ENTSO-E power grid in mid-March 2022.
Ukraine's earnings from electricity exports increased by 160%. In half a year, Ukraine has increased its revenue from electricity exports by $61.8M to $169.9M. According to data from the State Customs Service, this is 1.6 times more than in the same period of 2021. In those six months, $48.96M worth of electricity was delivered to Slovakia, $46.65M to Poland, $40.4M to Hungary, and $34M to other countries. In June 2022, export earnings amounted to $18.6M against $30.3M in June last year. At the same time, Ukraine imported $102.1M of electricity in six months against $58.6M in 2021.
