Agency for Energy Efficiency has developed a questionnaire for the Energy Community, which will determine the necessary legislative changes to implement the fourth energy package, Clean Energy for Europeans. On November 30, 2021, the Council of Ministers of the Energy Community undertook to implement the fourth EU energy package. Its goal is to gradually transition to clean energy and a low-carbon economy. It will cost the EU €195B to become independent from Russian energy,
reported Spiegel.de. Brussels is expected to present a plan to provide the possibility to the EU to become energy-free from Russia as soon as the middle of next week. To this end, the commission wants to set more ambitious goals for increasing the use of renewable energy sources and energy conservation. The strategy aims to quickly reduce dependence on fossil fuels from Russia through the transition to the energy sector. By 2030, 45% of the total energy in the EU should come from renewable sources instead of the previously planned 40%. According to the project, by 2028, the number of solar power systems should more than double to 300 gigawatts. By 2030, 10 million tons will be produced in the EU, and another 10 million tons will be imported. At the same time, by the end of the decade, it is proposed to reduce energy consumption by at least 13%, instead of the previously planned 9%.
Ukraine can import gas from foreign LNG terminals. It is now possible to import gas to Ukraine from LNG terminals in Greece, Croatia, Poland, and Lithuania, said General Director of GTS Ukraine Operator LLC Serhiy Makogon. He notes that the OGTSU doubled the guaranteed capacity for gas imports to Ukraine last year, which currently stands at 54 million cubic meters per day. Guaranteed import capacities from Hungary, at 8 million cubic meters per day, and Poland, with 4 million cubic meters per day, were created for the first time, and capacities from Slovakia were increased from 27 to 42 million cubic meters per day. Also, according to Makogon, Ukraine is becoming a critical gas transport hub for Eastern and Southern Europe, providing gas transit from Poland to Hungary through Ukraine's gas transmission capacity of more than 1 million cubic meters per day.
Ukraine will receive 25,000 tons of gasoline from Poland. Poland will provide Ukraine with 25,000 tons of gasoline to overcome its deficit, stated First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko. According to her, the reason for the fuel shortage is that before the war, 97% of Ukraine’s fuel was supplied by Russia and Belarus. Now those supply lines are closed. In addition, the Russians destroyed the Kremenchug refinery. As a result, 25,000 tons of gasoline will be sent from the Polish reserves to balance the fuel market. Ukraine will start receiving these resources early next week. The Minister of Climate and Environment of Poland, Anna Moskwa, took part in the same press conference. She said that work is underway to increase the capacity of the Polish-Ukrainian border for fuel transportation.
