Russia’s grain harvest may reach 130mn tonnes in the event of favorable weather conditions this year, Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko told TASS, adding that the 2022 harvest record might be equaled in the future. "In the event of good weather I think it is possible," she said when asked whether Russia might approach the 130mn tonnes mark in 2023. Earlier, the Russian Agriculture Ministry said that the country’s grain harvest with new regions taken into account might reach 123mn tonnes in 2023, including 78mn tonnes of wheat. Last year’s grain harvest totaled around 158mn tonnes.
The combined grain reserves of Russian agricultural companies grew by 60% on the year to 18mn tonnes, excluding corn, as of May 1, as seen by PRIME in the materials of the Federal State Statistics Service on June 2. The wheat reserves increased by 65% to 12.046mn tonnes
The Russian Agriculture Ministry has no plans to revise the grain harvest forecast for the current agricultural year that started on July 1, 2023 and will end on June 30, 2024 because of the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam, a ministry spokesperson told PRIME late on Tuesday. “The grains, including wheat meant for the 2023 harvest were sown on the rain-fed lands. This is why no revision of the harvest forecast is planned,” the ministry spokesperson said. In 2022, Russia’s gross grain harvest set a new historic record by gaining 29.9% on the year to 157.676mn tonnes. The ministry expects the grain harvest to amount to 123mn tonnes in 2023 including 78mn tonnes of wheat.
