Uralchem is expecting to see a recovery in Uralkali’s potash output in the second half of the year to the level of the company's production capacity, Uralchem Board Chairman Dmitry Tatyanin said in an interview with TASS as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). "The decline in Uralkali's potash production happened in the first quarter. We expect further steady growth, with volumes returning to capacity levels in the second half of the year," he said. "As for Uralchem, we expect that nitrogen fertiliser sales will allow us to maintain a 100% production capacity load. The situation with ammonia will change in 2024 following the launch of the Taman terminal," Tatyanin added.
Uralchem, a prominent player in Russia’s fertiliser industry, has abandoned plans to construct a nitrogen fertiliser plant in Angola, Uralchem's Chairman Dmitry Tatyanin told journalsits on the sidelines of St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 20.
The project was halted at the pre-investment stage he said. Currently, the company is not exploring any new investment opportunities for the project in Angola. He did not give a more specific reason for ending the project.
When asked about the potential acquisition of foreign assets, Tatyanin expressed Uralchem's openness to collaboration with partners worldwide. However, he emphasized that mergers and acquisitions are not the sole focus for the company's engagement in overseas markets. At present, there is no additional information available regarding potential acquisitions.
In late 2020, Uralchem's co-owner, Dmitry Mazepin, had previously stated that the company deemed nitrogen fertiliser production unprofitable due to prevailing market prices. As part of their considerations, Uralchem had evaluated the possibility of constructing a plant with a capacity of approximately 1.2-1.3mn tonnes of urea.
Togliattiazot, part of top Russian chemical producer Uralchem, plans to open Russia's first ammonia export terminal on the Kerch Strait in Taman, Krasnodar Region, by the end of the year, which is expected to compensate for the decline in pumping volume through the Togliatti-Odessa pipeline, which was damaged in a sabotage attack.
