In addition, 89% of the polled will spend 4,400 rubles ($63.5) on a New Year’s meal, while 53% will shell out 4,300 rubles to go out to theaters, restaurants, children’s shows and for other entertainment.
"This year indicates that desires and expectations diverge, since 25% plan to give mostly candies, alcoholic drinks and delicacies as presents, yet just 8% want to receive such gifts. Apart from that, souvenirs, toys (23%) and perfumes and cosmetic goods (21%) are next on the lists of gifts. The most desired gifts are holiday vouchers (11%), tickets to a concert, a theatrical performance or dinner in a restaurant," the poll says.
About 80% of the Russians plan to ring in the New Year with their families, the pollster said.
"Home remains the most traditional venue to ring in the New Year, as 80% of citizens are planning to stay in for New Year ’s Eve. Another 6% will visit friends and relatives, 4% will go their countryside houses and so forth. However, 5% of the respondents will not be celebrating New Year," the sociologists said.
The nation’s leading polling agency conducted the survey in December 2018 based on daily phone interviews with 1,600 respondents. The margin of error does not exceed 2.5% at the 95% confidence level.
