“The Hussle” by: Ashely Williams
We are paying tribute to Nipsey and his Hussle. He was known as Nipsey Hussle but born as Ermais Jospeh Asghedom who was an
American rapper, entrepreneur and most of all a King to his community. His stage name was a play on the name of comedian Nipsey Russell
which was given to him by a childhood friend. Nipsey was the person his community followed for guidance, listened to and received many
different resources from to advance the culture. His activism seemed to be more prominent than his actual music career. Many would describe
him as being wise beyond his years, but with a name like Jospeh how could you be anything other than prophetic? The rapper had a tattoo on
his face “Prolific” which means God will arise and many believe that’s what they saw happen during the span of his life through his various acts
of generosity.
Hussle made a huge impact in the very community he grew up, where he was once gang affiliated with the Rollin 60’s Neighborhood Crips.
Having had the opportunity to evolve, Nipsey used his influence, music and community work to publicly denounce gun violence. He saw life
differently at the age of 19 after his trip three month trip to Eritrea with his father and brother. Nipsey accredited that trip to his spark in
community activism and his entrepreneurial spirit. Nipsey started a co-working environment project that he titled Vector 90. He also had serval
other projects going and his famous clothing store “Marathon Clothing” where he was gunned down to death while helping a friend that had
been released from prison.
Victory Lap is the only studio album by the American rapper Nipsey Hussle. It was released on February 16, 2018 through All Money In No
Money Out and Atlantic Records.
