In Vanni’s analysis Cubism has either a romantic vein expressed in this work, or a classical one, developed in Composizione (GV4925). Both will coexist in Maria Stella (GV4926), establishing a way of working by comparing different figurative interpretations, that will be present throughout his art.
In this work he began
introducing his own elements,
while using established
models. This is evident in the
relationship between compositional weight and chromaticity, and the introduction of other paintings. Those, in spite of the shadow that situates them in the background in relation to the guitar, create an integrated compositional space that goes beyond the purely representational function.
