General Information

COLLEGE PREPARATORY

CURRICULUM

The minimum core for college preparation is listed below. Students who intend to apply to a four-year
college should expect to complete the curriculum at Mayfield High School.

1. English – 4 units
2. Mathematics – 4 units (Algebra content or above)
3. Social Studies – 3 units
4. Science – 4 units of Lab Science including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
5. World Language – 2 or 3 units
6. Fine Arts – 1 unit

State and private colleges are required to establish admission policies in line with goals and purposes
of the institution. By necessity, admission standards will vary from college to college. Some
universities may require more extensive preparation in specific subject areas. Check with the
university of your choice or your school counselor for the most up-to-date information.

The following coursework is strongly recommended by the Mayfield City Schools for all students who
are preparing to attend college. Studies show that students who take a rigorous college preparatory
curriculum are the most successful in college.
