INTRODUCTION TO ACCOUNTING (182)

The basic principles of accounting are emphasized in order to provide a sound background for college or employment. This course provides an understanding of how accounting systems are designed to process financial information (from recording journal entries to preparing financial statements). This course also introduces students to accounting fraud cases, business ethics, career options in the accounting profession, and various financial literacy topics.

 This course uses the skills learned in Intro to Accounting and takes students through the accounting cycle for a
 merchandising business organized as a corporation. Students will be introduced to accounting for inventory, payroll and
 payroll taxes, as well as financial statement analysis.
This course stresses the principles and skills acquired in Introduction to Accounting and Intermediate Accounting . It introduces the students to advanced financial accounting topics such as accounting for uncollectible accounts, fixed asset purchases, depreciation, and capital stock transactions. Students are also introduced to managerial accounting topics including sales, purchasing, and operating budgets.
BUSINESS PRINCIPLES/ENTREPRENEURSHIP (175)

A comprehensive examination of business principles with focus on entrepreneurship. Course coverage includes: accounting, finance, marketing, production, operations, management, and business law. Shifting from a traditional approach, in the first half, to a project-based approach, in the second half, students will have an opportunity to write a business plan. The project will culminate with the students creating and delivering a “pitch” presentation. In preparation for the business plan project, students will learn from entrepreneur guest speakers and investigate trends in leadership and idea generation.
FINANCIAL LITERACY (E176)

Beginning with the Class of 2022, this requirement will be met during Freshmen Orientation.
Financial Literacy is an online, non-credit, P/F course. This course meets the Ohio graduation requirement as expressed in the Social Studies academic content standards adopted by the State Board of Education under section 3301.079 of the Revised Code. Concepts that will be covered include Financial Basics, Working and Earning, Budgeting, Understanding Credit, and Wealth Creation and Risk Management. This course must be successfully completed prior to the end of the student’s Junior year.

Marketing plays a vital role in business, bridging the gap between producer and consumer. A variety of marketing activities will be studied including: channel management, marketing-information management, market planning, product/service management, pricing, digital marketing, promotion, and sales.
