INTRODUCTION TO PAINTING & DESIGN (363) (formerly P & D 1)
Semester 1/2 Credit Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 Req: Introduction to Drawing
Note: MyTrack Studio Arts students have priority with scheduling for this course.
Painting and Design I students will produce drawing, painting and mixed media projects with a focus on understanding color, form, and composition. This course aims to further develop perceptual drawing skills by engaging in observational renderings from real life, photographs, and masterworks. Student will be introduced to painting materials and techniques with an emphasis on color theory. Throughout the course students will study artists and movements as they apply to their projects.
PAINTING & DESIGN FIGURES & NATURE (364) (formerly P & D II)
1st Semester only 1/2 Credit Grades 10, 11, 12 Req: Introduction to Painting & Design (formerly Painting & Design I)

Painting and Design II students will produce drawing and painting projects with a focus on the human figure, nature, and narrative. This course aims to develop observational skills in rendering both anatomical and expressive works of art from real life, photograph, and imagination. Students will produce an independent and collaborative project. Group discussions and critiques will occur throughout the course.
PAINTING & DESIGN THEMES & METHODS (365) (formerly P & D III)
2nd Semester only 1/2 Credit Grades: 10, 11, 12 Req: Introduction to Painting & Design I (formerly Painting & Design I)

Painting and Design III students will produce drawing, painting, and printmaking projects with a focus on creating a series of work exploring a theme of personal interest. This course aims to develop each students’ personal strength through the creation of a focused series of work. Students will be introduced to contemporary art themes and methods. Group discussions and critiques will occur throughout the course.
GRAPHIC DESIGN (331)
Semester 1/2 Credit Grades 10 (MyTrack SA only) 11, 12 Req: Intro to Drawing (352)

An introductory course in visual design principles and concepts as applied to digital media-based projects. Students will learn how to use the industry standard software, Adobe Create Suite, focusing on Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Students begin to feel like a real graphic designer when they are able to produce a variety of different marketing materials and master many design concepts.
DIGITAL MEDIA (332)
Semester 1/2 credit Grades 10 (MyTrack SA only), 11,12 Note: MyTrack Studio Arts students have priority with scheduling for this course.
An introduction to image making and storytelling using professional photo editing software. Students will not only learn how to edit their photos, but also correctly compose photographs and learn how to set up their shots like a professional. A quality digital camera with an optical zoom lens would be extremely beneficial, but students may use their own cell phone cameras. Professional camera equipment will also be available for students to use.
