Faculty & Staff Attend AFCU Symposium
The Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities (AFCU) strives to nurture the community of academic institutions committed to Franciscan spirituality and intellectual traditions. These 24 colleges and universities meet every other year to support each other and provide a forum for dialogue and educational collaboration. New this year, Franciscan high schools from around the country were invited to participate in the AFCU Symposium, which took place at the University of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois
in June 2018. Padua faculty/staff members Ann Marie (Parente) Frattare ’94, Joan Giulivo, Laurie (Keco) Grabowski ’89, Eric Larson and Steve Suding attended the conference and enjoyed sessions focused on the symposium theme, “With Living Stones: Building a Franciscan Future...together!” The sessions provided valuable insights on how to bring the hallmarks of Franciscan education: relational, sacramental, and Gospel-oriented, into the classrooms and hallways of Padua.
Teachers Go on Franciscan
Pilgrimage to Assisi, Italy
Two members of the Padua community were blessed to go on a pilgrimage to Assisi. Their sentiments were as follows:
We are so grateful to have had this life-changing opportunity
to travel and see first-hand what our Franciscan heritage is all about. Sharing this wonderful journey through the life stories of St. Francis and St. Clare with insightful leaders and a group of 24 other people from all over the world made all the difference for us. We have learned that the key difference between a tourist and a pilgrim is that a tourist merely observes; whereas, a pilgrim relates. We were reminded that relationships, with God and with people, are what matter most in life.
Our greatest desire is to teach our students to be pilgrims, and not merely tourists, in their classes and in their school community, actively participating together as a family, in holiness and learning.
