• Farms:
Of the 11,000 hectares of agricultural land in Pondicherry, there are around 22 hectares of cer3fied organic farms. Interested people can also volunteer to work in Auroville farms and learn more about organic farming.
Mangroves
Pichavaram is the 2nd largest mangrove forest in the world aier Sunderbans. It is located near Chidambaram in Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu, in South India. Water sports ac3vi3es such as rowing, kayaking and canoeing are available here. There are more than 400 water routes available for boa3ng. Pichavaram mangroves aOract around 177 different species of birds making it a paradise for bird watchers. The season for birds is from September to April every year, the peak popula3on being from November to January. Apart from Pichavaram, there is a smaller and lesser-known mangrove forest in ThengaithiOu. The mangrove area in ThengaithiOu covers around 100 acres which were planted by the Forest Department to protect the coast. This has resulted in a new trend where many bird species have started living in harmony and exhibi3ng a trait known as “communal roos3ng” (different bird species choose to roost together in the same area).
Commu3ng in Pondy:
• Bus - Pondicherry Tourism Development Corpora3on (PTDC) operates daily bus services
for tourists in the city. This is an inexpensive way to go sightseeing around Pondicherry as the bus route covers most of the favourite tourist spots in town.
• Taxi - One can hire a car for self-drive or a private taxi to travel within Pondicherry and nearby ci3es.
