Meaningful Activities in Dementia Care
Aims: This course explores the role of creative expression
and meaningful activity as a healing and therapeutic tool in
the area of Dementia Care.
Course Content: The course explores the therapeutic
benefits of engagement in creative pursuits in person
centred dementia care. It explores various diverse ways we
can absorb clients in pleasurable activities tailored to their
interests based on our knowledge of client’s needs and
wishes and life story. It explores reminiscence therapy and
adapts current methods such as information technology to
retrieve pertinent materials to underpin the creative
activities we engage our clients in from music, film and the
arts. Games, songs and activities to take clients on nostalgic
journeys where appropriate. Use of memory boxes,
scrapbooks and albums among a wide variety of
approaches.
Objectives: The objective of the training is to provide
nurses, activity co-ordinators, care assistants and many
other allied health professionals with the knowledge, skills
and attitude required to facilitate the clients in their care
with Dementia
Target Audience: The course is open to anyone with an
interest in creative and meaningful activities in the area of
