Established in 1911 and built on the site of the first pioneer encampment in St. George, Dixie State University strives to help students define, shape, and achieve educational and life goals. Dixie State University is dedicated to providing excellent personalized instruction in a learning environment where students can become passionate about their individual educational endeavors.
Dixie State University currently offers 60 undergraduate programs, 25 highly sought after baccalaureate programs, associate degrees, and certificate programs. In the coming years they hope to expand their baccalaureate degrees and offer selected graduate degrees. DSU also has the lowest in-state and out- of-state tuition costs of any of Utah’s four-year institutions.
Roster of Programs
Currently, Dixie State University students can earn baccalaureate degrees in these schools of study: Business and Communication, Education, Health Sciences, Humanities, Science and Technology, and Visual and Performing Arts. (Please visit the university’s website—www.dixie.edu—for the most updated list of programs.)
Dixie State is home to some of the top health science programs in the state, including a nursing program that achieved the highest student pass rate among all programs in Utah on the RN licensor exam for three-straight years, and a dental hygiene program that consistently scores among the top 10
percent in the nation on board exams.
Dixie State also offers a number of adult education opportunities. The Institute for Continued Learning (ICL) is
also available for retired and semi-retired individuals, as is the DSU Road Scholar program.
Cultural and Business Enhancements
Community involvement is a key ingredient to the success of Dixie State University. DSU
provides many cultural opportunities for the community, many of which are now
featured in the university’s state-of-the- art Eccles Fine Arts Center. The University also sponsors a Celebrity Concert Series, the annual Sears Dixie Invitational Art
Show, the Tanner Amphitheater Summer Concert Series at the mouth of nearby Zion National Park, and the Southwest Symphony and Chorale. DSU has also
forged partnerships with the Southern Utah Heritage Choir. For information on
tickets, call 435 652-7800.
The Dixie Business Alliance and the Washington County Economic
Development Council, which offers a number of services to area businesses,
are headquartered on the DSU campus.
