Cape Henlopen’s beaches attract thousands of visitors to enjoy ocean swimming and sunbathing. Two designated swimming beaches provide lifeguard patrols between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. Umbrellas can be rented in the summer. The northern swimming area also features a modern bathhouse with showers, changing rooms, and a food concession.
World War II Observation Towers
One of the tall WWII-era concrete observation towers along Delaware’s coast is renovated and open to the public at Cape Henlopen State Park.

Delaware’s beautiful beaches are the state’s most popular recreation resource and are rated among the cleanest in the nation.
Southern Delaware Beaches
Southern Delaware is home to over 25 miles of coastline along the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay, 12 miles of which are contained within State Parks, including Cape Henlopen State Park, Delaware Seashore State Park, and Fenwick Island State Park.
Public ocean beaches can be found in the towns of Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, South Bethany, and Fenwick Island.
Public beaches along the Delaware Bay include Slaughter Beach near Milford and Broadkill Beach near Milton.

“The Quiet Beach” situated between the popular resort towns of Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, and Ocean City. Fenwick Island State Park is a relaxing escape from the summer crowds. This three mile stretch of Barrier Island is a playground of sand, surf, and sun along Delaware’s Atlantic coast.

Oceanfront amusement centers offer fun for the whole family. Mini-golf, shops, and eateries compliment the amusement rides and arcade games open during the warm weather months. The Bandstand has served residents and visitors alike for years with its free summer concerts.
