                       Millsboro www.millsboro.org
Millsboro was established in 1792 when Elisha Dickerson dammed the headwaters of the Indian River in an area called “Head of Indian River.” More than 15 grist and sawmills operated within a four mile radius of Millsboro in the early 19th- century. From the early 1930s, the dominant industry in the Millsboro area was the poultry business. By the 1940s, Townsend’s, Inc. had become the nation’s first fully integrated poultry company.
Millville millville.delaware.gov
Incorporated in 1906, Millville is just three miles west of Bethany Beach. The town is only 7,200 feet long and at the head of Whites Creek. During the 1940s, it was the hub of the area with a doctor’s office, five general stores, drugstore, barbershop, car dealership, hardware store, and feed mill.
Milton milton.delaware.gov
Originally settled in 1672, it was once known
as “Head of the Broadkill” for its geographic location at the beginning of the Broadkill
River. Before the War of 1812, Milton was so renamed in honor of the English author and poet John Milton. Just a few miles from the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Milton was ideal for shipbuilding. Many shipbuilders and sea captains lived and worked in Milton and evidence of this life is still visible in some of the historic homes and landmarks in town.
Ocean View www.oceanviewde.com Established in 1688, Ocean View was originally a 500 acre tract of land granted to Matthew Scarborough by Lord Baltimore. In 1923, Cecile Long Steele raised the first flock of broiler-fryer chickens in Ocean View. This is still Delaware’s number one agricultural enterprise.
Rehoboth Beach www.cityofrehoboth.com
The “Nation’s Summer Capital” was founded in 1873 as a Methodist Episcopal Church Beach Camp. By 1878 the railroad brought more visitors, and in 1879, the town was renamed “The Rehoboth Beach Association.”The Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware and Rehoboth Bays offer excellent swimming, sunbathing, exciting water sports, charter boat fishing and nature, and whale and bird-watching cruises. The mile-long boardwalk, built in 1873,
is one of Rehoboth’s greatest assets. For over 100 years, Rehoboth Beach has been a great family vacation destination.
Selbyville selbyville.delaware.gov
Founded in 1778, Selbyville was originally a 250 acre beach area on the St. Martins River. In 1842, Sampson Selby began marking packages for delivery to his country store, Selbyville. Selbyville supplied strawberries for the entire East Coast until the late 1930s. The town is located near the Great Cypress Swamp, one of the northernmost stands of cypress trees in North America, and an important geological feature of the Delmarva Peninsula.
Slaughter Beach

Slaughter Beach, founded in 1681, is home to the only wooden-frame lighthouse still standing in Delaware. Overlooking the mouth of the Mispillion River and Cedar Creek, this original building, although no longer functioning, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It stands as a silent testimony to the history of this small beach community.
South Bethany
