Activity: Remember, in the 10 through 12 century, common people did not possess a copy of

God’s Word. What they believed about Christianity was what they were taught by the priests
and bishops. Church services were held in Latin and few could even understand what was going
on. Ignorance was the rule of the day. That’s why historians call it the “Dark Ages.” It is not
without understanding we can see how thousands would be willing to travel from Europe to
Jerusalem if the promise of Heaven was the reward for their sacrifice. They did not hear or understand
the Gospel. They were lost, blind people leading the lost, blind people to their deaths.
Our world today has not changed much. Many around us are as blind as the pilgrims during the
Crusades. They need to know the truth of the Gospel. Will you be willing to tell them?
