Expository – Preaching the Bible
The preacher develops a thought whereby his proposition, main points, and sub-points are taken
directly from the unit of Scripture. There are advantages and disadvantages to expository preaching.

                     Advantages

                                                                                          39
                        (1) It exposes the Word as God presents it, not as man picks and chooses.
                        (2) It lessens the danger of preaching passages of Scripture out of context.
                        (3) It forces the preacher to preach the whole counsel of God.
                        (4) It teaches people in the pew how to read their Bible.
                        (5) It brings God’s Word to life.
                        (6) It keeps the preacher from targeting certain individuals in the pew.

                     Disadvantages – Few, if any!

As you can see, there’s more to preaching that just standing up in front of people with a Bible and
talking about its truth. One must know where he’s going. He must know how he’s going to get there. He
must determine what approach he will take. Therefore, he must have a full understanding of both the
               parts and types of sermons.
