8.4 Let’s Practice…
1. Write out the formula to ADD A1 through A6 on a spreadsheet.
2. Write out another way to ADD A1 to A6.
3. What symbol lets Excel know that you are about to enter your own formula?
4. Explain the operator preference between multiplication or division, addition and subtraction.
5. What is the purpose of parentheses in the operator preference?
6. Name a way to save an Excel document as a PDF.
8.5 Let’s Personalize this Lesson…
Activity: Take your spreadsheet that you created in the last lesson and now add the two columns with
numbers in them. In the “items” column, you would enter “Totals.” Now you have the total of all your
income and the total of all your expenses. Hopefully, your income exceeds your expenses, or you are
going “in the hole” financially. You can do this every month, but you might want to organize all your
income at the top portion of your spreadsheet and expenses toward the bottom of your spreadsheet,
right after your income is totaled. In reality, you have created what accounts call a P & L or “profit or loss report.”
It tell you in which direction financially you are headed. You can also create a similar spreadsheet as a “budget”
showing what you expect as income and plan as expenses. Staying on budget will help you tremendously.
