INSLLATION MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
INSTALLATION
Installing the material. Before installation, carefully verify the tones, sizes and choice of material,
as claim on laid material with immediate visible defects will not be accepted.
During installation, we recommend to always collect the material from several containers,
especially if it is standard with color shading and chromatic variation higher than V2. For
veined products, as for natural stones, we recommend to set the grains of the slabs, in order to
achieve the best aesthetic and chromatic effect. Installation can be performed both with the
dusting of cement and glue, using specific adhesives offering high performance for porcelain
stoneware. However, glue laying is high recommended as it ensures a greater seal, especially on large
sizes. When installing the substrate must be stable, dry and mature, not frosted or too hot. In
any event, follow the instructions of the manufactures of substrate material and for the specific
adhesives used. Cement-based adhesive must be applied at ambient temperature, and, in general,
between + C and + 30/35 ° C. It is understood that also for installation it is recommended to
follow the technical times indicated by the manufacturers of the adhesives being used. The most
suitable adhesives for laying of porcelain tiles can be identified based on the European Standard
EN 12004 currently in force. Especially for lapped / polished products (but ideally for all other
products), do not mark the material on its usable surface during installation with pencils (graphite)
or permanent markers.
JOINTS AND GROUTING
Jointless laying is not recommended. It is recommended instead a laying with 2mm joint for a
rectified product and minimum 3mm for the non-rectified material (this type of installation
enables greater grip by the jointing material on the tile sides, greater absorption and
compensation of any substrate movement).
In large area, we recommend to position expansion joints at regular intervals; whereas, for
smaller area, it is sufficient to leave a slight gap between the tiled area and the perimeter
walls. The skirting board will cover the gap, giving a finished appearance. In event, refer to the
recommendations/suggestions of the designer or site manager. In case the “end-to-end”
installation of rectangular product is preferred, we recommend to offset the longer side of a
maximum of 10-15cm on the length of the adjacent piece.
For larger side, we recommend using the double coating technique-the adhesive must be
applied on both the tile rear and wall/floor, to ensure no gaps between ceramic and support.
In order to safeguard the brightness of the surface, when installing lapped products, the floor
must be covered by sheets and cardboards, so to prevent any residual material from scratching
the surfaces of the tiles. The joint width can vary according to the tile dimensions and floor in-
