News from the President’s Charity: St Ann’s Hospice
Bromleys named as Curzon Ashton shirt sponsor
St Ann’s Hospice, the Pres- ident’s Charity for 2017, is appealing to solicitors from across Greater Man- chester to help with its fundraising Will Week campaign.
The charity, which needs to raise around £16,000 every day to ensure it can con- tinue providing its services to local patients, runs the annual appeal every March to encourage people to make their Will whilst sup- porting the hospice.
Participating solicitors do- nate their time by preparing the Wills without a fee, and the hospice asks that indi- viduals taking part in the appeal make a donation equal to their normal solici- tor charges directly to the hospice.
Hospice director David Spilsbury, whose remit in- cludes managing the fundraising, trading com- pany and finance teams at St Ann’s, explained: “Only a third of adults who die in Britain are covered by a Will, so this campaign is one that not only benefits the hos- pice, but also gives partici- pants peace of mind too.
“Solicitors work with the hospice to agree how many Will Week appointments they can make available, and people can book to see them if they wish to have Single Wills, Mirror Wills or Updated/Codicil Wills pro- duced.
“The campaign also high- lights the importance of making a Will, and last year just under 40 solicitors took
part. Feedback was that they really enjoyed joining the appeal, and that it helped them to make new connections whilst support- ing a local cause.
“We’d love to work with even more local legal firms this year to help us to pro- vide Wills to more local peo- ple, so we’d ask that anyone interested in taking part get in touch.”
Will Week 2018 will take place from 12th to 16th March, and St Ann’s is dis- cussing the appeal with local solicitors now. Any firms interested in finding out more, or signing up to take part, should contact Norma Young on 0161 498 2099 or email legacies@sah.org.uk
Tameside law firm Brom- leys has agreed a deal to be the official home shirt sponsor of Curzon Ashton FC for the 2017/2018 sea- son.
The Vanamara National League North side play at the 4,000-capacity Tame- side Stadium in Ashton- under-Lyne.
Under manager John Flana- gan, the club finished 14th in the league last season and reached the second round of the FA Cup for only the second time, losing 3-4 at home to AFC Wimbledon in a televised clash.
This season will see Curzon Ashton take on Stockport County, Salford City and FC United of Manchester in a series of mouth-watering derby fixtures.
The club is heavily involved in the community through a variety of footballing initia- tives and runs more than 40 teams for boys, girls, men
and women. Every Tame- side resident aged under 11 is entitled to a free Curzon Ashton season ticket.
Curzon Ashton chief execu- tive Natalie Atkinson said: “We are thrilled to have se- cured a partnership with an Ashton-based firm which echoes the values, thoughts and drive of our club.
“We hope this is the start of a long-term partnership that can go from strength to strength. We are delighted to welcome Bromleys and all their staff to the Curzon family.”
Mark Hirst, senior partner at Bromleys, said: “We’re thrilled to be supporting Curzon Ashton as the offi- cial home shirt sponsor for this season.
“With a history that can be traced back more than 160 years, we too are very much part of the fabric of Tame- side, and this partnership is a great way to promote our
brand in the area and be- yond.
“Everyone at Bromleys is ex- cited to be working with the club and its fans, and we wish John and his squad every success for the 2017/18 season following their achievements in re- cent years.
“We greatly admire the work that Curzon Ashton does in the community to enrich people’s lives through football, in particu- lar its commitment to the borough’s youngsters by ex- panding the number of ac- tivities for them.
“The club is making progress off the field too, and that’s great to see. “Bromleys has a proud record of working with local people, businesses, charities and other organisations, and this partnership is a fur- ther example of our com- mitment to this.”
