Text:
To get them going from Motown west,
Gertrude spoke up, then they broke up their small nest:
Learn new tricks in the land of flicks.
They lived in the city of L.A.,
But Dale was itching to get away:
College chicks had friends not in cliques.
Though they saw the Louvre
And all of its oeuvre
In Europe in the summer,
Got mono—what a bummer!
Rest will fix while that old clock ticks.
From Venice to East Hollywood,
And Topanga straight out to Westwood:
Places they warn ya’
About in California.
She would mix but not with the hicks.
Many times to Tokyo,
Tibet, Thailand and Bamako;
Lots of years in Asia,
From Turkey to Malaysia.
Took her licks, then she hit the bricks.
Now to zip overseas with her grip
She got hip, gets a gratis trip:
Still learns tricks when she’s sixty-six!
(parody of “Route 66” by Bobby Troup)
