I acquired it because The Boy Who Met a Whale is a rollicking adventure story, with peril and calamity and friendship and treasure and whales. There’s nothing else like it around.
Synopsis
Razi is watching the baby turtles hatching on the beach near his fishing village and make their perilous way down to the sea, when a boat bobs into view, a small hand trailing over the side... Razi overcomes the fear of the sea that has gripped him since his father drowned to pull the boat to shore and drag the half-dead boy he finds curled up inside to shade.
Revived with coconut water, Zheng tells Razi a far-fetched story about being a cabin boy who fled a shipwreck where
all the crew perished, apart from the terrifying first mate and ship’s cook, who were trying to steal the Dagger of Serendib when the ship went down. But the captain, fearful of their devious plans, had already secretly rowed to shore and buried it, leaving behind a cryptic treasure map. Razi steals this from the men and escapes, vowing to find the Dagger and return
