Foundation Studies and Skills
Foundation learning has a variety of pathways. The courses are designed for young people who need extra support and time to develop their basic skills to enable them to progress in college. There are no formal qualifications needed to apply for these courses.

You will study vocational modules to build a City and Guilds portfolio including:
• Health and lifestyle
• Catering
• Art, Design and Enterprise
• Housekeeping
• Citizenship
• Personal development
• Functional Skills – English & Maths
• Work placement (Chorley Hospital)
Foundation learning courses are designed to introduce students to college study whilst improving their basic skills. The courses run over either 3 or 4 days a week.
Courses available:
• Foundation Studies and Skills (FSS) entry levels 2 and 3, including functional skills English and Maths
• Future Skills (FS) entry level 3, including GCSE English and Maths
• Introduction to the Hospitality Industry entry level 3, including GCSE English and Maths
Students on Foundation Studies and Skills (Entry levels 2 & 3) will study:
A City & Guilds Employability Qualification which includes portfolio building and practical assessments in a range of vocational subjects with life skills included.
Basic Skills
Designed for students who need extra support and time to develop life skills and study skills.
