Why should I come to Runshaw to study English Literature?
As well as enjoying a wide range of engaging and stimulating novels, plays and poems, you will also develop your ability to express informed and independent opinions verbally and in writing – skills highly regarded by employers and universities.
Lesson activities are varied with active learning strategies, paired and group work, and a pronounced emphasis on discussion and debate – several of the reasons why our students achieve excellent examination results, with a 100% pass rate and over 70% A*-B grades.
In English Literature we love enrichment activities! We have seen not one but two Hollywood stars performing Shakespeare
on our regular theatre visits, and also make residential trips to London and Stratford upon Avon. You can also participate in enrichment activities such as:
• Creative Writing Society
• English Society and the English Academy
• Debating Society
What will I study?
You will study eight texts, including Shakespeare, and a range of novels, poetry
and plays, including both classics and works by modern writers. You will also get the opportunity to choose your own texts for coursework.
If you have enjoyed exploring plays, poems and novels at school, and want to develop your close reading, evaluative and detailed writing skills, you will be well suited to English Literature at A Level.
