Town enjoying a boom in housing
Thousands of new homes are set to be built in the area over the next few years
Chesterfield has always been a popular place to live, located as it is just a stone’s throw from the beautiful Peak Dis- trict and with great ameni- ties and booming businesses creating jobs.
There has been a recent surge in the number of homes being built in the area.
Nearly 2,000 homes are set to be built in the Chesterfield area over the next five years
Housing developers in the borough, including Woodall, Avant and Miller Homes, are delivering the most new build completions since 2007, with many houses being sold even before they have been built.
Progress is being made on The Park, the six-acre residen- tial development on the site of the former Arnold Laver timber yard at the ambitious £340 million Chesterfield Wa- terside project.
Construction of up to 170 two, three and four bedroom homes which will form The Park is expected to get under- way as early as the first quar- ter of 2019.
A collaboration agreement with an investment company to fund and deliver new resi- dential apartments has re- cently been put in place.
The agreement is the first stage of a process which will facilitate the construction of 310 Build to Rent apartments within phase one of the Ba- sin Square neighbourhood of Chesterfield Waterside.
Between April 2017 to March 2018 there was a rise of 33 percent in house build- ing on the previous year, ac- cording to data from the Ministry of Housing Commu- nities and Local Government. The growth rate is higher than the average for England, where new house building ac-

St Modwen are planning a further 825 new homes at Egstow Park, on the site of the former Bi-water plant near Wingerworth.
In addition there are plans to transform the former Wal- ton Works and Boythorpe Works sites which will include hundreds of new homes and flats and the conversion of the listed Walton Mill into retail space with apartments above.
Dom Stevens, of Destina- tion Chesterfield, said: “Peo- ple want to live, work and do business here and our hous- ing plans are further evidence of this.”
