local charities. I work hand in hand with my dad through his business and have learned many skills like sheetrocking.
What can you do during your Tenure of Service as a Titleholder to impact your community?
I think it is important for girls to realize they can do anything a guy can do. My entire life I have been involved in what is considered “guy” activities, but because of this, I have learned to be extremely independent and self-sufficient. Throughout my year, I will work to encourage girls to look at these hands-on activities and occupations. I will also work to encourage teens to not only look at four-year universities but also look at others avenues of training because we are at an all-time low in technical jobs. I will work from day one to speak and do hands-on demonstrations with school groups to allow them to see what is out there for them to open their minds to regarding education and occupations.
What has been your involvement with your platform?
I have used my platform to speak in schools and to college representatives about teaching girls of all ages to follow their dreams and open their minds to new ideas. I assure them that if they work hard, and never put their head down to criticism, they can do anything. Also, I am in a predominantly male construction class where I have educated them on behalf of myself and other girls about my platform, so that they may teach others too.
What inspired you to first become involved in your platform?
I am someone who has always been involved in “guy” activities and want to pursue a technical job such as welding. I have always had surprised reactions, good and bad, about the activities I enjoy. Many times I have felt upset at the fact that people are surprised that a girl is doing these activities. I never want girls to feel put down when someone is surprised. I want to teach them to keep their heads up, and never fall prone to stereotypical activities and “live”. My platform inspires others like myself to work hard and follow their dreams even when someone tells you otherwise.
If you are selected as the winner, how would you mobilize and market your platform nationally?
I would love to use my passion for welding to spotlight attention to my platform nationally. I have spoken with many organizations including The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Paris on my platform and how we can raise awareness. Also, I would use the community to talk to girls about following their dreams and never backing down. I would love to inspire generations young and old to pursue something they had never thought possible because they might find it was the missing piece of their life they were looking for.
How would you utilize social media in order to positively further your position as a titleholder if you are selected as the winner?
