protozoans have been identified. No doubt, as technology improves methods
of observation, better models of classification of these simple single cells will
be proposed.

Waste water, or sewage, is a menace to health because it usually
contains pathogen and other substances that contaminate food and drinking
water. It may also be offensive to the senses of sight and smell.
Industrial waste water includes liquid waste from factories and other
industrial plants. Industrial waste can be disposed of by discharging into the
body water or land. It is usually treated before disposal. The treatment
process varies with kind and amount of waste in the water.
In cities, sewage is piped to treatment plants for primary and secondary
treatment. In primary treatment, sewage flows on the holding tank. Lighter
materials, such as soil and greases, float to the surface. The material that
settles to the bottom, called sludge, is withdrawn from a tank, and the material
at the surface is skimmed off. Secondary treatment is usually biological
