A seminar based on “Grid integration of
renewable energy sources-Challenges and

Possible Solutions” was held by Mr. S
Selvakumar and Dr. K Vijayakumar from ABB &
IIITDM respectively, on 27/7/19.

A noteworthy lecture titled “Recent Trends in
Microgrids” was delivered by Mr.A.Robinson Jeyaraj,
Senior Engineer Power Projects India, Chennai on
31/7/19. The guest speaker had a hands on
experience in various national and international
projects adhering to IS and IEC standards. He shared

his expertise in sizing various power system
equipment, advantages of using different software
packages like ETAP, Digsilent power factory and PSSE
for power system analysis. An overview of HOMER
software and its salient features were demonstrated
lively to the students.
A Workshop on “Hands on Training on Renewable
Energy Generation Systems” was organised by Dr.
Vijayakumar Krishnasamy, Asst. Professor, Dept. of ECE,
IIITDM, Kanchipuram and Dr. Krithiga S., Associate

Professor, SELECT, VIT, Chennai on 19/07/2019. The
workshop enhanced the knowledge of the design
aspects of the renewable energy systems and provided
hands-on experience in design of different renewable
energy systems and its components. The workshop was
divided into two sessions out of which the first session
focussed on the development of PV model in
MATLAB/Simulink and to obtain its I-V and P-V

characteristics while the second session focused on
wind energy conversion systems.
