Dealing with Differences
A high performance culture is one in which the values, beliefs, and work styles of all employees and managers are aligned with the corporate vision and goals. In a continuous improvement environment that means, among other things, being aligned and focused on customer value, safety, engagement and agility. However, a workforce is comprised of individual human beings, each with their own values, beliefs and work styles. These human differences can lead to tension and disputes, which, if handled poorly, can decrease productivity and morale.
A workplace where people think and act the same way is one that does not tap into people’s creative differences and varied experiences. An effective leader taps into the energy in conflict and sees it as an opportunity to utilize the different talents and viewpoints of employees to stimulate engagement and innovation. The benefits include increased understanding, strengthened relationships and improved group cohesion – all of which lead to improved worker retention, enhanced innovation and greater productivity.
This module addresses key aspects of dealing with differences in the workplace and how to embrace conflict to enhance teamwork and efficiency.
