Head towards Perfection
When the first 4 principles have been applied and the ‘Future State’ of that process achieved, this then becomes the ‘‘Current State’ and the cycle begins again. Using the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) tool helps build a culture of continuous improvement and learning. Although perfection can never be achieved, a workplace in which all employees are engaged in continuous improvement will lead to a world sustainable, high performance organization.
5 S is:
• a workplace organization methodology that uses five Japanese words which, translated into English, start with the letter S
• a philosophy and a way of managing the workspace and work flow
Benefits of 5 S:
• improved flow
• improved efficiency by eliminating waste
• reduced process unevenness
• better workplace morale
