n Part 1 from November, we discussed the 
movement towards mobility in the workplace 
and how wireless IP phones and BYOD are two
options. We also discussed two considerations 
on whether a workplace needs to go mobile: 
employees and environment.

Although manufacturers claim their BYOD 
smartphone apps deliver the full features of an 
IP phone via so ware, there’s a hardware issue. 
Smartphone sizes have changed drastically since 
 rst introduced, unfortunately the trend isn’t for 
a more ergonomic design.
Smartphones are getting thinner and smaller

ore than half of North American and 
European companies are developing 
a bring-your-own-device (BYOD)
policy, according to Forrester Research. Letting 
employees use their personal smartphones and 
tablets for work enables small and medium 
businesses and large enterprises to leverage 
technologies that would be more expensive to 
buy. But that, and other bene ts, come with a few 
caveats due to clashes between company security 
policies, laws and employee privacy perceptions.
For example, many businesses have deployed 
enterprise mobility management (EMM) 
platforms to better manage and remotely
erase all data on stolen or lost company-issue 
smartphones and tablets. Another reason is to 
comply with industry-speci c regulations such 
as Dodd-Frank, which require  nancial services 
 rms to archive text messages, emails and voice 
calls. “We have seen a 100 percent increase in the 
volume of audio data recorded and analyzed by
