I didn’t know what to do!! It was an accident. The train
jolted and the gun fired! But who would believe two Negroes over a white man. We ran as far as... Jefferson City.
GUS Running... Running... Running...
(LEVI and GUS slowly stop running coming to a full stop. GUS slowly moves out of the SPOTLIGHT - taking a seat back at the TABLE in BLACK - placing his cuffs back on his wrist)

Stayed low for five days. Saw wanted signs plastered
everywhere in town with my brother’s name and description on it.
(He slowly place the CUFFS back on his wrist then moves to sit in the chair)

“Wanted dead or live.” Is what it said. “Travelling with
another companion. Be on the look out.”
(LIGHT RISES full. GUS is back in CUFFS sitting as LEVI sits center stage cuffed. BASS, SILAS, GRANT all unfreeze)
