   2023 PRESIDENT
WHAT A YEAR IT'S BEEN
It is hard to believe that it is December and my year as President is coming to an end. We have had a great year; it wasn’t without its challenges, but we were able to navigate through them all. As I look back on the past eleven months, I wanted to share a few accomplishments from 2023.
We kicked off the year with one of the most well attended Housing Forecast to date. Mark your calendars for Friday, January 5th, 2024, at 7:30am at the JW Marriott Hotel. Due to popular demand, we invited Dr. Dietz the Chief Economist for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) along with Bryan Glasshagel with Zonda and San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. You can buy your tickets or table online at www.sabuilders.com. The Forecast is a great way to start the new year!
We had a very successful Legislative Session. Rally Day was a huge success with 54 members from GSABA in attendance. I saw firsthand the great work that the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) does on behalf of membersacrosstheStateofTexas. TheTABlobbyteamdoesanexceptional job representing the homebuilding and remodeling industry, and with the strength of our grassroots efforts, we passed legislation that will not only help but also protect Builders, Remodelers, Developers, and Associate members by enhancing the Residential Construction Liability Act and shortening the Statute of Repose.
The Association formed a new Professional Women in Building (PWB) Council, and it was the fastest growing PWB Council in Texas this year. The leadership and membership accomplished so many things together and supported the Magdelana House, the San Antonio Blood Bank, and our community by providing desserts for the Military Luncheon.
We secured a site for the 2024 and 2025 Parade of HomesTM, and we are already working on securing a site for the 2026 Parade of Homes. The Parade of Homes is our largest revenue event, and it is important to our members and our bottom line.
On the government affairs front, we connected with our elected officials on the local, state, and national levels several times this year. The 3 PAC Fundraising event was an overwhelming success, and we continue to affect change in City Halls across our 22-county jurisdiction. We strengthened our relationships with the City Managers and Staff in Seguin and Cibolo and continue to work hand in hand with the City of San Antonio and their dedicated DevelopmentServiceDepartment(DSD). WearemakingprogressinBexar County with the stormwater permits too.
Membership is back on track due to a successful membership drive in August, recruiting 54 new members. I want to personally thank Randy Oliver with Hollywood Crawford Garage Doors & Openers for underwriting the Membership Cruise. Dominick Alongi, Dale Sauer, Jeff Kuwamura, and I all won the cruise by recruiting 8+ new members. We will set sail February 15th out of Galveston. If you are looking for a great committee to get involved with, pleaseconsidertheMembershipCommittee. TheNorthParkFamily of Dealerships teamed up with GSABA again and one lucky member will

drive away in a new car with a two-year lease for recruiting a new member or members this year!
We had a strong line-up of Chairs and Co-Chairs in 2023 for our special events, and we were blessed to bring in several of our events over budget. There is no way we could accomplish what we do without your support. The Sr. Officers were fully committed this year and gave their time and talent into streamlining several programs at the Association.
Congratulations to Tim Pruski as he takes the reigns as President. I have worked in the government affairs arena with Tim for the last 10 years and GSABA is in good hands. I plan to stay very involved and will chair the Scholar Home initiative in 2024; more details will follow in the next issue of the Builder Brief. I will also serve as the Area Vice President for TAB and serve on their Executive Committee for the next two years. I plan to be very active in our local and state government affairs efforts.
Thank you for your support. I have met so many members and made friendships that will last a lifetime.
It was a privilege and an honor to serve you and GSABA.
Sincerely,
8 DECEMBER 2023 | GREATER SAN ANTONIO BUILDERS ASSOCIATION
