Bridget Reed, Matt’s wife, is a peer mentor teacher in BPS’ professional development department. The couple live
in Satellite Beach and have deep ties to the neighborhood. “My greatest accomplishment is raising a couple of great kids
and having a great family who’s been able to stay on the Space Coast,” he said. Reed’s children, both Satellite High graduates, are Molly, a TV news reporter in Youngstown, OH, and Jackson, a student at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.
Russell Cheatham’s dad worked for BPS years before Russell came
to work here. Marvin Cheatham worked in what was then called data processing, so Russell calls himself a second generation BPS employee. Cheatham, the junior, joined
the superintendent’s cabinet as the assistant superintendent / chief information officer late last month.
Cheatham is keen to collaborate with the other departments and the schools to see what is working well with educational technology (ET) and
what things could be done better. One of the projects he is most interested in pursuing is the 21st century classroom. “I’m very interested in working with leading and learning to see what the classroom of the future might look like,” he said. “We really want to see what flexibility we can provide teachers in the future as far as what’s
in the classrooms. We want to make sure they have the tools they need to be as flexible as they can be.”
Looking to the future, Cheatham wants to make sure ET is involved in all the necessary projects it needs to be. “I want to make sure we are working hand in hand with the departments so we’re all making the best decisions we can,”
he said. “Technology changes every day. The challenge for ET is to make sure our students are
